Ruislip Underground Station
Ruislip is an above-ground London Underground station in the London Borough of Hillingdon . It is in the Travelcard tariff zone 6 on West End Road. Served by the Metropolitan Line and the Piccadilly Line , the station was used by 1.71 million passengers in 2013.
The route of the Metropolitan Railway (predecessor of the Metropolitan Line) between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Uxbridge was opened on July 4, 1904 and electrified six months later. At that time, Ruislip was the only stopover; further stations on this route only emerged in the course of time when there was a need, as the area was still markedly rural and the population density was very low. From March 1, 1910, trains of the Metropolitan District Railway (today's District Line ) also stopped here ; these were replaced on October 23, 1933 by those of the Piccadilly Line.
The station building, including the pedestrian bridge and signal box, has been a listed building ( Grade II ) since 2000 . The ensemble is considered the best-preserved example of rural stations on the Metropolitan Railway.
