The Rum Pond (English for Rumtümpel ) is a pond in East Antarctic Victoria Land . It is the larger and more easterly of two frozen pools in the valley floor of the Alatna Valley in the Convoy Range .
The pond is one of a number of geographic features in the Convoy Range whose names are related to seafaring . Rum was one of the traditional beverages used by seafarers and also in the supply of a team from the New Zealand Antarctic Research Program who worked in the area between 1989 and 1990 and made the name.
