Central Radio and Television Office

The Central Radio and Television Office (RFZ) of the Deutsche Post was a scientific and technical central authority of the GDR , comparable to the FTZ in West Germany .

The forerunner facility was the radio and television company laboratory founded in 1952 ; With the upcoming introduction of color television , the RFZ emerged in 1962 .

From April 1990 it operated for a short time as the center for radio services of the Deutsche Post until it was finally wound up in October of the same year.

Fields of activity

The RFZ was directly subordinate to the Ministry for Post and Telecommunications of the GDR and acted as general contractor for radio investments, special tasks and radio-typical project planning services. In particular, the construction management for the Berlin television tower was responsible .

The office was also the control facility for satellite communication within the framework of Interkosmos as well as for international communications in the GDR region in general. It represented the interests of the GDR in the field of radio communications in international organizations such as the Council for Mutual Economic Aid and Intersputnik .

A substantial part of the activities extended to the development of systems for audio and television studio technology , in this context, among other things, the subharchord was created .

Location

The RFZ had a representative office building on the premises of Studio Berlin Adlershof on Agastraße. Most of the administrative buildings were demolished after 2005. A few laboratories still exist, such as a low-reflection room and the currently unused lecture hall.
