Runestone on the Reva burial ground

The 1829 discovered rune stone in the cemetery of Reva ( Ög 221) stands along with some tombs and stone circles from the early Iron Age between Norrköping and Linköping , 500 m southeast of the Church of Törnevalla in Östergötland in Sweden , on the burial ground of Reva. The rune stone has nothing to do with the burial ground. He was removed from the church tower base in 1889 and moved here.

The stone is made of granite . The height is 2.46 m, the width at the base is 1.7 m. The stone has its runes in a ribbon of snakes (Swedish Ormslinga ). The head of the snake, which is rarely engraved in this way, is shown in a bird's eye view ( Swedish fågelperspektiv ). This style is associated with the first half of the 11th century. The inscription reads:

aytr: rasti: stin: þasi: aftiR: t [a] sk [a]: Fathur: be: Buta: Kuthan :.
Øyndr built this stone for Danske, his father. He was a good farmer.

More rune stone fragments were found in and around the church of Törnevalla in 1829. These are the stone (Ög 223), the rest of which is on a square west of the cemetery, and the stone (Ög 222), a fragment of which is integrated into the cemetery wall. Then a rune stone was discovered in the church (Ög MÖLM1960, 230), which is currently in the tower of the church.
