The runestone of Balsta ( Samnordisk runtextdatabas Sö 107) is at Balsta trädgårdsallé in Eskilstuna , about 150 m northeast of the original location on Gredby gata, near Gredby bro. In 2004 it was moved to rune stone Sö 109 due to construction work , just like stone Sö 108, which was originally directly opposite .

Runestone from Balsta

The rune stone Sö 107 is a light granite stone . It is 1.7 m high and 70 cm wide at the bottom. The unknown rune master used engraved Swedish runes from the 11th century. The words are separated by colons. The serpentine ribbon begins at the lower left with a clumsy, round-eyed serpent's head and has no accurate end. The snake is arbitrarily doubled towards the end and the text continues with loose runes.

The text that begins at the head of the serpent and runs clockwise reads: “HrōðlæifR built this stone after his father Skarf. He drove with Ingvarr. ”Skarf is a name that is not often found on runestones. It probably refers to the cormorant , also called the scarf.

This is one of the 26 Ingvar stones . You can clearly see the lettering Ikuari (for Ingvar). As with other Ingvar stones, the same construction of the inscription can be seen here, where "Ingvar" stands a little on its own and always has a central position on the stone. Ingvar Vittfarne ( German  "Ingvar the far-traveled " , also Ingvar Emundsson) undertook a war trip ( Swedish útrór ) to Serkland on the Caspian Sea , in which he and many of his people died. After six years, only one of thirty ships returned to the Mälaren in 1042 AD .

Johan Peringskiöld (1654–1720) already mentioned the stones on Gredby gata, which he called "Herculles stoder". He describes another stone, Sö 110, which has disappeared and is said to have stood "in Grönsta gärde". It is said to have been one of the Greece rune stones ( Greklandsstenarna in Swedish ) mentioned by someone who has traveled to Greece.
