Runestone in the church of Vang

The rune stone of Vang (also called Sjørringsten) about six kilometers northwest of Sjørring in Thy is the smallest rune stone in Denmark with a height of 63 cm and is located in the Karnhaus of the church of Vang on Rodals Bakke. It is originally from Sjørring, where it was in the cemetery until 1741. After that it was used as a cornerstone in a house. It was found again in 1841 and bought by the priest of Vang. The stone dates from the Viking Age 800-1050 AD.

The inscription is on one broad side and on top of the stone. It is read from the lower left corner, the outermost row of runes first, then the inner and last the upper inscription - this from left to right. Translated there it says: "Aase set this stone for her husband Odmund, who was" Hvidmand "of Finulv".

The stone is one of four known rune stones in Thy , three of which have been preserved.

There is a runestone from Vang in Norway.
