Runestone from Vang

The rune stone from Vang (N 84; Norwegian Vangsteinen , also rune stone from Grindaheim ) is a rune stone from the early 11th century. It stands at the church of Vang in Fylke Innlandet in Norway . He is 2.15 m tall. Until 1844 it stood next to the former stave church of Vang , which was however moved to Karpacz in the Giant Mountains .

On the top of the stone, which is decorated with tendrils and foliage, is the representation of an animal , which is often interpreted as a lion.

inscription

The runic inscription is carved separately from the composition on the sides, in contrast to most other rune stones from the Viking Age.

Runic inscription: kosa: sunir: ristu: s (t) in: þinsi: af (t) ir: kunar: bruþur: sun
