Running Wild is a documentary by Egon Humer from the year 1992 .

content

The film observes youth gangs in Vienna in the early 1990s. In many cases it is (almost exclusively male) adolescents of the second or third generation of migrants , but also Austrian young people who come together in groups and roam the parks and alleys of the Viennese suburbs. The young people talk about their dreams, hopes, but also about their experiences, which often have to do with violence.

context

The production was created against the background of a debate that was going on at the time about increasingly perceptible juvenile crime in Vienna. The fall of the Iron Curtain shortly before and the rise of the FPÖ with highly xenophobic election campaigns also played into this climate .
