Rupert Buchberger

Rupert Buchberger (born January 2, 1928 in Krottendorf , Styria; died January 30, 1994 ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and farmer.

Life

Rupert Buchberger was born as the first of three children to farmers Rupert and Rosa Buchberger. After completing compulsory schooling in Weizberg, Rupert Buchberger graduated from the rural vocational school in Weiz and attended courses at the Graschnitz adult education center and at the Baden farming school in Waldshut-Tiengen . Buchberger began his political career in 1954 as a member of the Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry . In 1961 he took over his parents' farm, which specializes in grain and fruit growing.

From April 19, 1963 to October 18, 1991 Rupert Buchberger was a member of the Styrian state parliament as a member of the state parliament. He was a member of numerous committees, including the Agriculture Committee for 21 years. From 1970 and 1989 he was also mayor of the municipality of Krottendorf near Weiz. From 1971 to 1989 he was a board member of the Raiffeisen Association . From 1971 Buchberger was deputy chairman of the Styrian farmers' union , which he also chaired from 1984 to 1989. From 1972 he was also vice-president of the regional chamber before he served as its president from 1980 to 1989. From 1980 to 1986 he was Vice-President of the President's Conference of the Chambers of Agriculture. In 1982 he was awarded the professional title of Economics Council. In 1985/86 he was also Vice President of the Austrian Farmers' Union. From 1989 Buchberger was chairman of the Raiffeisen Association, where he held this position until his death. Buchberger also worked as a lawyer for the agricultural cooperatives.

In 1993 Buchberger was awarded the Great Gold Medal of Honor of the State of Styria with a Star for his services to the State of Styria .
