The medieval districts around 1000

The Rurgau was a medieval Franconian county on the lower reaches of the Rur . The areas of today's cities Düren and Eschweiler belong to Rurgau .

The Rurgau is attested in the middle of the 11th century, it is likely to be a subdivision of the Jülichgau .

Since the Rurgau is often confused with the Ruhrgau not only in older literature , special attention is required here.
