Jülichgau
The Jülichgau (Latin: Pagus Juliacensis , Dutch: Gulikgouw ) was the area east of the Maas with Jülich in the center and the Maasgau on the other bank of the river during the Carolingian era . The Mühlgau was located north of the Jülichgau .
The Jülichgau became part of the County of Jülich in the 11th and 12th centuries .

- Eberhard (* around 856; † after 889), 888 attested as Count in Jülichgau ∞ Gisela (daughter of Count Waltfred von Verona), Eberhard was a son of Berengar II.
- Gottfried (* around 905; † March 26, after 949) Count Palatine of Lorraine, Count in Jülichgau ( Matfriede ); ∞ Ermentrude (* 908/916), attested around 934, daughter of King Charles III. of France .
- At the beginning of the 11th century , a family of counts appeared in Jülichgau with the lead name Gerhard . Gerhard I. is Count in Jülichgau from 1003 to 1029, followed by Gerhard II. (1029-1081), Gerhard III. (1081–1114), Gerhard IV. (1114–1127), Gerhard V. (1127–1138) and Gerhard VI. (1138-1142). Gerhard III. is recorded for the first time with the nickname comes de Julicho . With Wilhelm I (1142–1176) the Counts in Jülichgau became the Counts of Jülich.
