Russell Kenneth Holmes (born July 1, 1982 in Fountain Valley, California ) is an American volleyball player .

Career

Holmes began his sporting career as a footballer at the age of four and only got into volleyball at Fountain Valley High School. He played on the Brigham Young University team from 2004 to 2008 . He then moved to Hypo Tirol Innsbruck . With the new club he immediately became Austrian champion. In 2009, the middle blocker made his debut in the US national team . In the following season Innsbruck succeeded in defending the title in the Austrian league with Holmes. The middle blocker played several times in the world league and took part in the 2010 World Cup. After a year in Brazil at Minas Těnis Clube , he was committed in 2011 by the Polish first division club Jastrzębski Węgiel . In 2012 he was in the squad for the Olympic Games in London .
