Russell L. Rogers
Russell Lee Rogers (born April 12, 1928 in Lawrence (Kansas) - † September 13, 1967 near Kadena Air Base , Okinawa ) was a Lieutenant Colonel of the United States Air Force and USAF aspirant astronaut .
Rogers received his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Colorado in 1958 and was selected as a Dyna-Soar astronaut in April 1960 . He ended his career as an astronaut in December 1963 with the termination of the Dyna-Soar program without going into space. Rogers stayed with the USAF and died in a plane crash with an F-105 when his reserve parachute did not open.
