Rusty nail

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rusty Nail ( engl. For Rusty nail ) is an alcoholic cocktail of Scotch (Scotch whiskey) and Drambuie , a liqueur based whiskey with honey and herbs. It belongs to the short drinks .

Whiskey and Drambuie are put into a small tumbler , usually in a ratio of 2: 1, stirred cold with a few ice cubes and served on the rocks . A lemon peel twist can be used as a garnish .

Despite its purely Scottish ingredients, the cocktail is an invention from the United States , where it became popular in the 1950s. The cocktail's unusual name is believed to be due to its rust-colored color. However, according to a modern legend, the name comes from the use of rusty nails in the preparation. Scottish bartenders would have used rusty nails to stir things in revenge on crude American customers.

The manufacturer of Drambuie advertised his drink in magazines in 1989/1990 with the following anecdote : In 1799 the Scottish brothers Rusty and Dusty Nail got into a serious argument about who was responsible for the invention of a new drink made from Scotch and Drambuie. The dispute escalated and ended in a gun duel that only one of the brothers survived.
