Ruth Keller (gymnast)

Ruth Schumann-Keller (born May 12, 1959 ) is a former Swiss gymnast .

biography

Keller practiced from the age of five gymnastics and dancing the way for two years ballet . From the age of nine, she practiced jumping on the trampoline . In 1980 and 1982 she became world champion in trampoline gymnastics . In 1984 she officially announced her retirement from gymnastics.

Keller was an exception in Swiss sports . So she didn't train in a gym with her father, but in a barn. She had to contest the first competitions in the men's category, as Keller was the only woman in the top performance class in Switzerland. She was also celebrated several times as the winner of the men's category. Thanks to her successes, Keller was the first woman from Glarus to be voted Swiss Sportswoman of the Year in 1980, a few years before the ski racer Vreni Schneider .

She is married, has two children and lives in Mollis in the canton of Glarus.
