Ruth Antoinette Meyer Schweizer (born February 18, 1936 in St. Gallen ) is a Swiss sociologist .

Life

Meyer Schweizer studied ancient and ancient Near Eastern languages ​​and cultures as well as philosophy and received his doctorate in 1961 from the University of Zurich . From 1962 to 1973 she was an assistant and lecturer at the Universities of Frankfurt am Main and Trier (1971–1973), she also studied sociology . From 1973 to 1994 Meyer Schweizer was a senior assistant, then a lecturer and lecturer at the University of Bern . In 1984 she received her habilitation in sociological theory and empirical social research and in 1994 she was appointed part-time associate professor. She was a part-time lecturer for military sociology and issues of social change at the military schools of the ETH Zurich , lecturer at the universities of Friborg (educational sociology ) and Zurich (literary sociology), and executive officer of the Scientific Committee on Armed Forces and Conflict Resolution of the International Association of Sociology. She is still Executive Officer of the International Facet Theory Association, where she was President from 2005 to 2007. In 2001 Meyer Schweizer retired. From 2005 to 2017 she was President of the Board of Trustees of the Seniors University Bern.

Ruth Meyer Schweizer was a major in the army staff of the Swiss Army (previously Detfhr. In the Red Cross service of the Swiss Army). She was president of the Swiss Working Group on Military and Social Sciences (SAMS) (1986–1995), founded in 1976, and editor of its journal SAMS-Informations . She was also president of the Federal Commission for Women in Security Policy (1981–2000) and a member of the Federal Youth Commission (1978–1983), as well as city councilor in Bern (1981–1987).
