Building at Rynek 17 in Lublin

The building at Rynek 17 is located in the historic old town of Lublin in Poland , more precisely: on the market square . On the site of the current building there were two houses in the 15th century, which were rebuilt in the Renaissance style towards the end of the 16th and beginning of the 17th century .

history

In 1771 both houses from the 15th century were merged into one house. Ignacy Baranowski , a later professor at the University of Warsaw, was born here in 1833. A year later, in 1834, the building became the property of Tadeusz Wieniawski. Tadeusz was the father of Henryk Wieniawski (* 1835) and Józef Wieniawski (1837–1912), both composers who were born here. While it was owned by the Wieniawski family, the building was completely rebuilt in 1840. The family's initials were affixed to the balcony during this renovation, but were removed again in 1938. In 1875 the building was enlarged by a further floor to a total of three, which, however, was demolished again during a reconstruction in 1949.
