Building at Rynek 18 in Lublin

The building at Rynek 18 is located in the historic old town of Lublin in Poland , more precisely: on the market square . In its current form, it was built from 1949 to 1951 after being destroyed in the Second World War .

history

In the Middle Ages, there were two different buildings on the site of the present-day structure. In the course of time these have become one common. It had a facade in the style of the Renaissance. A mannerist portal was installed on the first floor. At that time the house was owned by the Konopnica family. It was probably created by masters from the Pińczów workshop and mimicked the style of the Italian architect Santi Gucci . From 1674 the ground floor was provided with buttresses. During the Second World War, the building was destroyed and rebuilt. A renovation took place in 1954. The decorations on the right half of the facade date from this period. These were created by Hanna and Jan Cybis . Above the entrance there was a bust of the Polish Renaissance architect Jan Michałowicz from Urzędów, which is no longer there. While maintenance work was carried out in 1965 and the buttresses on the ground floor were removed, Renaissance masonry and fragments of the portal came to light. In the mid-1970s, maintenance measures were carried out again. The portal was reconstructed based on samples from Santi Gucci.
