Santi Gucci
Santi Gucci (* around 1530; † around 1600 in Książ Wielki or Pińczów ) was a Polish-Italian Renaissance architect and sculptor.
Santi Gucci probably came to Poland from Florence around 1550 and became court artist of the last Jagiellonian king Sigismund II August , of Anna Jagiellonica and Stephan Báthory . Santi Gucci's workshop in Pińczów developed into a center of Mannerist art in Poland. As one of the most successful and fruitful architects of his time, he built a large number of aristocratic palaces throughout the Rzeczpospolita , including the Firlej family castle in Janowiec on the Vistula from 1565 to 1585 , for which he also erected a Mannerist funeral monument in 1586, from 1585 to 1585 1595 the palace in Książ Wielki for the Cracow bishop Piotr Myszkowski, the palace of Łobszów in Cracow (1585 to 1587), probably also the palace ( palace of the Leszczyńskis ) in Baranów Sandomierski .
Other works include the tombstone for Anna Jagiellonica in the Kraków Wawel Cathedral , the choir stalls and the tomb of Stephan Báthory . In the center of Cracow the reconstruction of the chapter house, in Niepołomice the Branicki family chapel and the St. Anna chapel above Pińczów .
Because of his services to the Polish crown, he was raised to the nobility.
