Niepołomice (German: Niepolomitz, Heidenau ) is a town in the powiat Wielicki of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the town-and-country municipality of the same name with around 27,250 inhabitants.
The city is located 25 km east of Kraków on the bank of the Vistula River by the Puszcza Niepołomicka forest . She owns that under King Casimir III. Royal Niepołomice Castle, built as a hunting lodge , the original construction of which was built in the 14th century.
history
The history of Niepołomice is shaped by the forest and the hunting lodge. After enlargement, the hunting lodge became a royal secondary residence, in which the kings resided from the 14th to the 17th centuries, especially until the death of Stephan Báthory (1586). After the capital was moved to Warsaw (1610), the city became the seat of a Starostwo (Starostei) . As a result, she came to various families of the high nobility, u. a. to the Branicki and the Lubomirski . The invasion of Sweden in 1655 put an end to the city's splendor. The First Partition of Poland brought them to Austria, which set up a district court and various other authorities here, as well as creating the marketplace. In the middle of the 19th century, the city was connected to the Galician rail network. In 2007 the Gallery of Polish Art of the 19th Century, moved from the Cloth Hall in Kraków to the Royal Castle, was opened.

Parish church
The from 1349 built Gothic , 1696 baroque reformed church of our Lady and the 10,000 Martyrs ( Kościół Dziesięciu Tysięcy Męczenników ) is a later probably under the influence of Tylman van Gameren converted nave with a barrel vault, originally two-aisled church on the type of Kasimirskirchen (see. Stopnica , Szydłów , Wiślica ). It has a renaissance chapel of the Branicki by Santi Gucci and Tuscan-Emilian polychrome wall painting in the sacristy from around 1360.
Niepołomice Castle
The existing castle, which corresponds to the type of regular Italian palaces, is a Renaissance building built for King Sigismund II August between 1550 and 1571 , the four wings of which are arranged around an almost square inner courtyard. The second floor was demolished around 1800. Three wings are lined with arcades built in 1637 supported by pillars on the ground floor and columns on the upper floor. The access gate closed by a balustrade with a portal from 1550 lies in the axis of the north wing.

Also noteworthy is the town hall in the folk romance style by Jan Sas-Zubrzycki from 1903.
Staniątki Benedictine Abbey
The Benedictine Abbey in Staniątki was founded in 1228 and converted into a school under Emperor Joseph II in 1784.

There is a branch of the truck manufacturer MAN in Niepołomice . In addition, a subsidiary of the Coca-Cola Company , the window manufacturer Oknoplast (in Ochmanów), the animal feed manufacturer Royal Canin and DHL have settled in the community.

The city is connected to the railway line (Linia kolejowa nr 91; stop in Staniątki) from Kraków via Bochnia and Tarnów to Rzeszów . It is located on the national road 75 from Cracow to Nowy Sącz (Neusandez) and the voivodship road 964 Limanowa - Wieliczka - Dąbrowa Tarnowska . The A4 autostrada ( European route 40 ) leads past the city south and opens up via the Szarów junction.
