history

Staniątki Abbey

The name is derived from the Slavic given names Stanimir , Stanislaus or Stanibor with the diminutive suffix -ęta, first in the form * Stanięta , later * Staniątko , plural * Staniątka and finally * Staniątki . According to local legend, the name of the village is associated with Adalbert of Prague , who allegedly went through the town to Krakow in 997, stopping there with the Czech words "udielamy tady staniatky" .

From the 12th century the village belonged to the Gryfici family. Around 1220 the abbey of the Benedictine nuns was founded by Klemens Jaksa and equipped with 50 villages. Later the nuns owned up to 112 villages. In the 16th century a school was opened by them for noble girls.

During the first partition of Poland in 1772, the village became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804).

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Staniątki became part of Poland , with the exception of the time when Poland was occupied by the Wehrmacht during World War II .
