The Mainsail Rock ( English for mainsail rock ) is a cliff rock in the archipelago of the South Orkney Islands . It is located 1 km southwest of Spine Island in the Sandefjord Bay of Coronation Island . It is the largest and most easterly of a chain of three cliff rocks, which are distributed in a north-west-south-east direction off the southeast side of Monroe Island .
The name was given by scientists from the British Discovery Investigations following surveys carried out in 1933.
