Rytterknægten is the highest mountain on Bornholm and the highest in Denmark , outside the central Jutian mountain range of Ejer Bjerge . It is 162 meters above sea level and is located in the middle of the island in the Almindingen forest area . At its summit stands a tower called Kongeminde ("Monument to the King"), which was built in 1856 in honor of Frederik VII and his wife Luise Christine Danner . It was paid for with donations from the residents of Bornholm.

The memorial plaque of the tower contains the inscription (German translation): In memory of His Majesty King Frederik the Seventh Highest Presence on this island from August 8th to 16th, 1851 accompanied by his wife, the Bornholmers erected this building with humble love and devotion 1855 and named it King's Memorial .

The height of the stone tower is 13 meters. In 1899, however, the trees in the surrounding forest had grown so tall that a view was no longer possible. A nine-meter-high metal structure was erected on the top. The viewing platform reaches 184 meters above sea level.
