The Tschiervahütte ( Rhaeto-Romanic ) is a mountain hut belonging to the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) in the Bernina Group .
location
It lies at an altitude of 2573 m above sea level. M. on the southern flank of Piz Tschierva , above the Tschierva glacier . The hut, built on this site in 1951, was modernized in 2002. The old building, made of natural stones from the area, was expanded to include an extension that is clad with larch planks.
The hut is often used as a starting point for climbing Piz Bernina over the Bianco ridge .
history
The first hut was built in 1899 on the moraine of the Tschierva glacier. Due to the retreat of the glacier, this hut was abandoned in 1951 and a new hut was built at the current location, which was expanded in 1969. From 2002 to 2003 the hut was modernized and expanded and adapted to today's regulations and needs. For example, the kitchen and dining area were enlarged, washing facilities and toilets were integrated into the building and a sewage treatment plant was built.
Approach
The approach used in almost all cases leads from Pontresina through the Val Roseg . At Hotel Roseg you leave the valley floor and first cross the east side of the valley uphill. Later, at Margun Misaun at 2245 m , you turn in a south-easterly direction into the valley of the Tschierva glacier , which you cross on its northern side. It takes a good three hours from Pontresina. The first part of the ascent can be done by mountain bike , there are also horse-drawn carriages.
Tour possibilities
The hut is the starting point for the ascent of the Piz Bernina ( 4049 m ) over the Bianco ridge. Other peaks often climbed from the hut are Piz Morteratsch ( 3751 m ), Piz Roseg ( 3937 m ), Piz Scerscen ( 3971 m ) or Piz Tschierva ( 3546 m ).
In addition to these summit destinations, crossings to the Bovalhütte (via the Fuorcla da Boval, 3347 m ) and to the Coazhütte are possible. The latter crossing is relatively difficult and leads over scree and moraines, some torrents have to be crossed, which can be impossible with high water flow.
