Louise Countess Danner , Countess von Danner since 1850 (born April 21, 1815 in Copenhagen as Louise Christine Rasmussen, †  March 6, 1874 in Genoa ) was the morganatic wife of King Frederick VII of Denmark .

Life

Louise was the illegitimate daughter of Juliane Caroline Rasmussen and the businessman Gotthilf L. Köppen. She received a careful upbringing, was trained to be governess and held this position in several families. Later she became a member of the ballet of the Royal Theater Copenhagen . She won the affection of the publisher, later chamberlain and royal private secretary Carl Berling, and with his help opened a ladies hat shop .

Here the Crown Prince of Denmark and later King Frederick VII established a love affair with her, which was legalized on August 7, 1850 with the conclusion of a morganatic marriage . The wedding service was held by the Copenhagen Bishop Jacob Peter Mynster . Louise Christine was raised to Countess Danner and exercised a not insignificant influence in the party struggles of that time. The couple resided at Jægerspris Castle on Zealand . After Friedrich's death in 1863, she withdrew to Cannes , France, financially secure, but still unloved by the Danish public . From her fortune, she set up a social foundation for the benefit of orphans and impoverished women of the working class ( Kong Frederik den Syvendes Stiftelse ).
