Lists on the subject

The Smith & Wesson Model 25 is a six-shot revolver that fires .45 ACP or .45 Colt pistol ammunition . It was manufactured in series from 1955 (which is why it was initially called " S&W Model 1955 Target ") and was used in the US Army for a while.

history

The Model 25 is a further development of the M1917 (revolver) from which Smith & Wesson had delivered almost 165,000 units to the US armed forces and around 25,000 to Brazil by the Second World War . With the revival of shooting sports, the Model 1950 Target was first released. This was followed by the 1955 model with a heavier barrel, which was named Model 25 from 1957 . From 1957 there was also the Model 26 which, however, went back to the earlier model from 1950. The designation Model 25 was introduced for .45 caliber revolvers .

Working principle

Due to the borderless sleeve that is actually for guns designed cartridges .45 ACP and .45 Colt that was Revolver with so-called charging clip ( half - or full moon clip or half-moon clips or full-moon clips ) delivered, which have the purpose to enable the sleeves to be ejected in spite of the missing edge. Because of the rimless 45 mm case, the ejector of the revolver drum cannot grip and would virtually “reach into the void”. The revolver has a SA / DA - deduction (engl. Single Action / Double Action ), which allows the shot both by biasing the faucet and so with minimal pressure ( Single Action ) and unvorgespannt and with greater force, by swiping of the trigger ( double action ). Each time the hammer is cocked ( SA ) or the trigger pulled ( DA ), the drum continues to rotate by one chamber with the aid of a transport pawl . The functional principles correspond to the predecessor model M1917 .

Barrel and frame

The Model 25 is available in an 8 38 "(213 mm), 6.5" (165 mm), 6 "(152 mm), 5" (127 mm) and 4 "(102 mm) version Barrel , whereby the version with 6.5 "barrel length was only manufactured in the first two years after the start of production. The revolver has a so-called " N-Frame ( square butt )" or the frame size N. The illustration shows a model with a barrel length of 6.5 ". The main changes to the predecessor model M1917 are a heavy barrel and adjustable sights .
