Sao Pedro (Ericeira)

São Pedro Church is a Catholic parish church in the Portuguese parish of Ericeira .

history

The church was originally built as a chapel in 1466 and dedicated to the apostle Simon Peter . From 1658 the chapel was expanded several times.

The chancel shows four portraits with scenes from the life of Simon Peter, also the altar and the carved tabernacle, as well as portraits of the Evangelist John from the baroque era . In the nave there are four side altars with the following pictorial program: The Conception of the Virgin , Sacred Heart of Jesus , Mary of the Rosary and Golgotha . In the sacristy the altar shows Our Lady on Mount Carmel . It was originally located in the porch of the church.

A stone cross was erected in front of the church in 1782.
