from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Saxon State Parliament was the state parliament of the State of Saxony in the Soviet Zone and GDR from 1946 until the suspension of the states in 1952. After the fall of the Wall, the State of Saxony was re-established and the Saxon State Parliament was re-elected.

history

The Saxon State Parliament, which was constituted after the end of the Second World War, met for the first time on June 25, 1946 as the Advisory Assembly of the State of Saxony . The members had not yet been elected, but were composed according to a key given by the administration. It was only after the election on October 20, 1946 that an elected state parliament met for the first time in Saxony. According to the constitution of the state of Saxony, the state parliament consisted of 120 members who were elected for a period of three years in general, equal and direct elections. However, it is certain that the first election, like the subsequent election of October 15, 1950, was rigged. In the meantime, Parliament had independently extended its mandate by one year in 1949. Until the dissolution of parliament in 1952 Otto Buchwitz was president of the state parliament. It was only after the state of Saxony joined the Federal Republic of Germany that the state parliament was reconstituted and on May 26, 1992 gave the Free State of Saxony a new constitution .

First term

After the election on October 20, 1946, the Saxon state parliament met for the first time. The members of parliament can be found under List of Members of the Saxon State Parliament (1946–1952, 1st electoral period) .

Second legislative term

Although according to the constitution the election should have taken place in 1949, the second state parliament was not re-elected until October 15, 1950, as the parliament had arbitrarily extended its mandate by one year. The members of parliament can be found under List of Members of the Saxon State Parliament (1946–1952, 2nd electoral period) .
