The South Park is a park in Berlin district Wilhelmstadt of Spandau .
Emergence
The six- hectare park was created in 1923 under the general building director Richard Woy in the marshland of Börnicker Lake.
construction
In the south the area borders on Heerstrasse , into which a staircase leads through a dense population of bushes and an exit to the bus stop Jaczostrasse ( Metrobus M49, 136, 236); in the southeast the park is open to Heerstraße / Pichelsdorfer Straße (bus stop Alt-Pichelsdorf ; Metrobus M49, express buses X34, X49, 136, 236).
To the west are Börnicker Straße and a housing estate, into which a staircase and an embankment lead up towards Graetschelsteig .
In the northwest, an arm, flanked by the area of the combined baths Spandau Süd on the left and a leisure sports facility on the right, connects the Südpark with Alfred-Balen-Weg and Melanchthon- / Weverstraße ; There is also a fenced football field and a children's playground here.
In the north there is a separate zone with a flower bed and benches, gaming tables, a snail (1957, sandstone sculpture by Hans Hauffe), two paths that lead to Jordanstrasse / Am Südpark and the allotment garden colony 'Kietzer Feld'.
The eastern edge is the Plathweg with two entrances; in front of it, flowers, a weather mushroom and a fish (1957, sandstone sculpture by Hans Hauffe) decorate the area.
The center of the south park is dominated by a pond that extends across a large part of the entire area. A small, flat wooden bridge leads over the water near the playgrounds. Around this are benches and picnic sets on wide meadows criss-crossed by sidewalks; a large circular path surrounds the backdrop. Below the shore and Pichelsdorfer Straße, the Stolzengraben connects the pond with the Grimnitzsee .
Others
In the course of the filming of the feature film The Land of Smiles (1952), a Chinese garden was recreated in the Südpark .
