Soji Yamamoto

Sōji Yamamoto ( Japanese 山 本 草 二 , Yamamoto Sōji ; born February 25, 1928 in Nagano Prefecture ; † September 19, 2013 ) was a Japanese lawyer and from 1996 to 2005 a judge at the International Tribunal for the Sea .

Life

Yamamoto studied at the University of Tokyo , where 1953 he graduated in Law acquired. From 1955 to 1961 he was a research assistant at the University of Kumamoto and from 1961 to 1967 Professor of International Law at the International Christian University (ICU) in Tokyo. In 1969 Yamamoto received his doctorate in law . Activities as a professor at Tōhoku University and Sophia University followed .

He was also a government official for the Japanese Ministry of Post and Telecommunications from 1973 to 1982 and had been a member of the Japanese Society of International Law from 1976 , of which he was president from 1988 to 1991. Since 2000 he has also been a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague .
