Sōmei Satō
Sōmei Satō ( Japanese 佐藤 聰明 , Satō Sōmei ; born January 19, 1947 in Sendai , Japan ) is a Japanese composer. His music is a fusion of Western and Japanese traditions ( Gendai Hogaku ) and is inspired by Shinto and Zen Buddhism .
Life
At 18 he devoted himself to western music and taught himself to compose. He currently lives in Tokyo .
In 1999 he and other composers were invited by the New York Philharmonic and Kurt Masur to compose the piece Message for the Millennium .
