St. Nicholas (Ulten)

St. Nikolaus ( Italian San Nicolò ) is a fraction of the municipality of Ulten in South Tyrol ( Italy ). The village is located at an altitude of 1256  m in the wooded Ulten Valley , which is surrounded by high mountains.

  • 1338: Gothic Church of St. Nicholas first mentioned in a document in 1338, with a neo-Gothic winged altar and mysterious stone figures on the wall
  • 1904–1906 Construction of the “Hartungshausen” villa, summer residence of the Christoph Hartung von Hartungen family
  • 1969: Relocation and reconstruction of the valley museum by Gottfried Oberthaler
  • 1973: Ulten Valley Museum: You can visit rural cultural assets, folk handicrafts, local animals (golden eagles, bears, capercaillie)
  • 1827: Construction of the St. Nikolaus elementary school including the teacher's apartment, since 1872 without structural changes

In 2000 a new elementary school was built.

economy

In addition to tourism and mountain agriculture, there are several craft businesses in St. Nikolaus. The place has its own heating plant for heat supply.
