The locomotives of the SŽD series ТГМ4 (German transcription TGM 4) of the Soviet Railways (SŽD) are wide-gauge diesel locomotives with diesel-hydraulic power transmission primarily for shunting services. They are considered a further development of the SŽD series ТГМ3 and SŽD series ТГМ6 .

history

The SŽD series ТГМ4 is a four-axle diesel locomotive with hydrodynamic power transmission , designed on the basis of the SŽD series ТГМ3 and SŽD series ТГМ6 locomotives from the Ljudinowo diesel locomotive factory . Compared to the previous version, the engines of the 211 D-1 , 211 D-2 and 211 D-3 series were used for the not entirely successful M 753 diesel engine . These engines were also used in the АЧ0 series railcars and have an output of 750 hp (552 kW) at 1400 rpm. They are engines with a piston diameter of 210 mm and a piston stroke of 210 mm. The ТГМ4 diesel locomotive has a ballast of 15 t.

The first test locomotive was delivered in 1973. Of the basic variant, 2659 locomotives were built.

Modifications

ТГМ4A

The difference to the basic variant is that the ballast is only 3 t, which means that this variant has a lower friction weight of 68 t. The modified variant ТГМ4А also has a different axle drive.

The first test locomotive was manufactured in 1971. A total of 2918 machines were built. The machine was also the name ТГМ4 L , where L consequently slight variation means.

The ТГМ4 and the ТГМ4А are equipped with the fluid transmission UGP 750/202 PR 2 , which is equipped with a long- distance and a shunting gear.

ТГМ4B

This variant has been modernized and was created on the basis of the ТГМ4 and modified by the ТГМ6D . It is equipped with the 211 D-3M diesel engine with an output of 815 PS (599 kW). This increased the design speed of the locomotive from 55 km / h to 65 km / h. The locomotives have different cabs for the engine driver's cab. In June 2014, 1,077 locomotives were delivered and production is still ongoing. From number 985 onwards, the locomotives are equipped with different bogies.

ТГМ4B L

This variant is the smaller variant of the ТГМ4B with 68 t friction weight . A smaller number was derived as a variant for export. Eight diesel locomotives were manufactured for operation in tropical areas for export to Cuba . Since the sale to the customers did not take place, they were given to industrial areas in climatically demanding areas of desert areas.
