The Tm I belonged to the smaller two-axle construction tractors of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and, based on a pilot series from 1957 and 1958, were supplied from 1960 by the companies RACO and CMR for easy shunting at train stations.

technology

The tractors originally had an air-cooled SLM engine and a mechanical manual transmission. The two axes are driven by chains. From the 1970s, the engines were replaced by slightly more powerful engines from Deutz or Stabilimenti Meccanici VM in Trieste. The built-in shunting coupling could be operated by the driver from the driver's cab. The pre-series vehicles had a lower power engine with 44 kW. The factory type designation at RACO was 60 LA 7 for the pre-series vehicles and 85 LA 7 for the series vehicles. The vehicles could be towed at speeds of up to 70 km / h. In recent years, many of these shunting tractors have been equipped with additional soundproofing and soot filter systems.

Deliveries

In 1957 and 1958, a pilot series of seven units was built at SLM and RACO and put into service as Tm 301 to Tm 306 and Tm 896. Tm 301 to Tm 303 became Tm 401 to Tm 403 in 1963. The Tm 304 to Tm 306 were first given the designation Tm 404 to 406 in 1963 and the numbers Tm 893 to Tm 895 in the 1970s 107 serial tractors with the road numbers Tm 330–368 were delivered to the State Railways. In 1963 the vehicles were renumbered in Tm I 407-513 - sometimes with a second line-up, as the number ranges from them were already used for Breuer tractors from the 1930s to be replaced by the Tm I until they were parked.

commitment

The tractors Tm 893 to 896 of the pre-production machines were assigned to the main workshops, they have since been sorted out. The series machines remained in station service and have been decommissioned since the 1990s. On January 1, 2008, 14 locomotives were still in the active fleet of SBB. The last ones left active service in 2010. Some still received the computer number 230 together with a few SBB Tm II , while retaining their serial number. At the end of their service, they were also used in construction train service.

Whereabouts

The machines that were sold and still in use were given the UIC numbers Tm 230 (98 85 5230) while retaining their most recently used serial numbers.
