Club history

The association was founded under the name "SG Kirchheim" in November 1945 and recorded in 1946, renaming to the current name took place in 1986. Many departments are considerably older, as they used to be independent associations. As early as 1879, the TV 1879 Kirchheim was founded, today's gymnastics, handball and athletics department, from which the basketball players emerged in the 1950s. The athletes' club was established in 1887 and the football company in 1910. The Kirchheim chess club has existed since 1923. The volleyball, tennis and bowling departments, the wheelchair basketball players and the triathlon group are younger.

Since 1978 the SGK has had its own clubhouse with a restaurant and ancillary rooms as well as four bowling alleys. Next to it are the Heidelberg-Süd sports grounds and six tennis courts. The training of the departments takes place in the sports halls of the sports center south hall I and II, in the Geschwister-Scholl-Schule, in the Festhalle Kirchheim and in the sports hall Internationale Gesamtschule (IGH).

History of the football department

Today's soccer department was established in 1910 as the Kirchheimer Fußballgesellschaft, or Kirchheimer FG for short, which joined the FV Kirchheim on New Year's Eve 1918. The highest division in which SG Heidelberg-Kirchheim played was from 1952 -54, 1957 -63 and 1964-67, the then third-class 1st Amateur League North Baden and the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg (1984-1989, 1996-1997, 1998– 2001). A perspective team was founded in 2007. After losing 2-0 in relegation against FC Birkenfeld, the Kirchheimers played in the Rhein-Neckar regional league in the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons. In 2012 he was promoted to the sixth class association league Baden . In 2019 they were relegated again to the lower Landesliga Rhein-Neckar.

By winning the BFV Cup twice (1988 and 1992), they were able to qualify for the first main round of the DFB Cup . There, however, it was over again in the 1st and 2nd main round. In 1989 they lost the cup derby against SV Waldhof Mannheim 1: 3 in the first round . In 1992 the Heidelberger had a bye in the first round and lost in the second round to the later finalists, the amateurs of Hertha BSC , 0: 3.
