history

Football has been a sport in Schweina since 1919. Even before the Second World War , several football clubs were playing (e.g. Sportclub, Wacker, TUS, NWK). SG Glücksbrunn Schweina was founded in 1947 under the direction of Albin Stäblein. From 1950 to 1954, the club entered the league as Motor Schweina.

BSG Motor Bad Liebenstein

From 1954, when Schweina was incorporated into Bad Liebenstein, there was a new name; the first men's soccer team of BSG Motor Bad Liebenstein did not get beyond the then fifth-class district class Suhl until 1959. It was only at the end of the 1959 season, at that time every calendar year, that qualification for the Suhl district league succeeded . In the season west of 14 teams, BSG Motor reached 12th place in 1960 and thus just managed to stay in the league. The 1961/62 season went over 39 rounds due to the changeover to the autumn-spring season, and the Liebensteiners held the class again with rank 11. A year later, the same placement was no longer sufficient, as the number of relegated members had increased due to the dissolution of the third-class II. GDR league .

It was not until 1965 that BSG Motor was able to make another attempt in the now third-rate district league. In the 1965/66 season, however, it was only enough for 12th place in the 14th field, too little for relegation. Although only fourth-rate for many years after that, the team achieved a significant success in 1970 when they won the Suhl District Cup. This involved participation in the GDR-wide FDGB cup competition 1970/71 . The Liebensteiners were drawn in the first main round against the second team of the upper division Sachsenring Zwickau . As a lower-class team, BSG Motor had home rights, but was defeated by the Sachsenring team, which played in the second-class GDR league , just 0: 1.

Motor Bad Liebenstein appeared again in the 1973/74 season in the Suhl district league for a year.

BSG Motor Schweina

After more than twenty years, Bad Liebenstein and Schweina parted ways. Both communities became independent again and the sports club started again in 1974 under the name BSG Motor Schweina.

SG Glücksbrunn Schweina

At the time of the change in the GDR, in the summer of 1990, it was decided to rename the association again. Since the 1990/91 season, the footballers have been back under their old names. Successes were winning the district cup in 2005, promotion to the state class in 2005 and winning the Thuringian state championship in indoor football in 2005. After the end of the 2014/15 season, the football team won the season in the state class south and was promoted three game days before the end of the season the Thuringian League firmly.
