Stichting Internet Domeinregistratie Nederland (SIDN) is the administrative organization of the country-specific top-level domain (ccTLD) of the Netherlands with the designation .nl . The company has its administrative headquarters in Arnhem . In the second quarter of 2010, .nl was the fourth largest ccTLD after .de , .uk and .cn .

history

In 1986, the management of .nl was one of the first top-level domains to be transferred to an institution outside the United States, the Dutch Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI). Since 1996 the Stichting Internet Domeinregistratie Nederland (SIDN) has been responsible for .nl as the successor to the Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI).

In 2011 the SIDN presented a database with judgments on the top-level domain .nl at domjur.nl . To this end, the SIDN works together with the law faculty of the University of Tilburg .

In August 2012 .nl reached five million domains, on the occasion of which the registry posted a video with congratulations on social networks. As a result, the SIDN has become known to a broad public outside the Netherlands.
