Sony Interactive Entertainment Bend Studio is an American game development company and a subsidiary of the Japanese console manufacturer Sony Interactive Entertainment . The studio was founded under the name Blank, Berlyn and Co. and operated under the name Eidetic between 1993 and 2000 .

history

The studio was founded by former Infocom employees Marc Blank and Mike Berlyn in the late 1980s as Blank, Berlyn and Co., initially to develop sports games for the Apple Newton .

But the founders wanted to expand the business area to other platforms. In 1993 the founders hired the future studio manager Chris Reese, renamed the studio Eidetic and started developing for the PlayStation console .

The first game Bubsy 3D , a continuation of the Bubsy series , fell short of expectations compared to the Crash Bandicoot, which was released around the same time . With the next development, the action spy game Siphon Filter in 1999, the company laid the foundation for a multi-part series. The game was created on behalf of the platform manufacturer Sony , who was looking for a product to compete with the successful Nintendo title GoldenEye 007 .

After the successful first title, Sony Computer Entertainment took over Studio 2000 and renamed it Bend Studio. Over the next few years, Bend Studio released six successors to Siphon Filters on Sony's PlayStation, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable consoles . This was followed by mobile implementations of the Sony brands Resistance for PlayStation Portable and Uncharted for PlayStation Vita . In 2019, Days Gone was the first title for a stationary console to appear again.
