Days Gone

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Days Gone is the US development studio YOU Bend Studio , exclusively for the PlayStation 4 developed action adventure - video game . The game was first presented at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2016 in Los Angeles and was released worldwide on April 26, 2019. The publisher is Sony Interactive Entertainment .

The protagonist of the game is the bounty hunter Deacon St. John (spoken in the German version by Adam Nümm ), one of the last people to survive after a global pandemic . The player controls St. John in the open-world game and navigates him through the neglected and volcanic western United States.

action

The action of the game begins two years after a global pandemic that has wiped out almost all life worldwide and turned millions of people into so-called "freaks". These Freakers are dumb, wild creatures who are more animals than humans, but evolve quickly and are anything but sluggish.

Days Gone's protagonist is Deacon St. John, a former “ outlaw ” biker who lost his wife Sarah shortly after the wedding in the outbreak of the pandemic. Bitter because of the loss, he fights his way as a bounty hunter through a post-apocalyptic game world, the so-called Farewell Wilderness, the landscape of which is modeled on the American state of Oregon . St. John wears the back patch of the fictional motorcycle club Mongrel MC Farewell on his habit , with the bloody head of a chain dog on a chain as a center patch.

Gameplay

The player controls the protagonist Deacon St. John from the third-person perspective and deals with infected people, looters, wild animals and members of rival factions on his journey through the country. The fight against enemies takes place, among other things, with striking weapons, for example baseball bats, which, however, wear out and break over time. Firearms like pistols and machine guns are more effective. Striking weapons can be upgraded with improvements over the course of the game; there are larger magazines for firearms. Weapons and useful items can be activated at any time, even in combat, by pressing a button using a selection wheel that is displayed on the screen. It is also possible - provided the player has collected enough materials in the area - also objects by means of this menu Crafting to make and provide the character with Molotov cocktails or healing potions.

Days Gone is an open world game that offers numerous alternatives to direct combat against opponents. A stealth approach can be used, for example, by silently infiltrating an enemy camp by cultists and using explosives to destroy the protective wall, so that freakers from the surrounding area pounce on the enemy. In addition to human opponents and the infected, the animal world of North America in particular represents a constant danger. Again and again, the player is confronted with wolves, bears and infected ravens, the so-called screamers.

Only motorbikes can be used to explore. The Deacon motorcycle is of particular importance as it is the preferred means of transport through the mostly impassable terrain. If the vehicle suffers damage, replacement parts are required for repairs, which the player collects in the area, or the damage can be repaired in a workshop. Fuel is a valuable resource that can be found all over the game world. The player can customize the two-wheeler and make it more efficient by means of different paintwork and the addition of improvements, such as a larger tank or a nitro boost.

opponent

  • Newts are people who got infected in their youth and who quickly strike out of the shadows.
  • A horde can consist of several hundred Freakers who go hunting together.
  • Rest in Peace , RIP for short; It's a cult worshiped by the Freakers. The members call themselves Rippers, dress up as Freakers and attack other people.
  • In addition to looters and other drifters, anarchists are other human opponents with whom one has to fight in the course of the game.
  • The partially infected animal world, in which, for example, pumas, wolves, bears and ravens called screechers are dangerous to the protagonist.

Types of freakers

The infected humans, called Freakers, are the most common enemies in Days Gone and have different skills and attack techniques.

Surname description
Enthusiast Most Freakers are swarmers - infected people who go hunting in small groups of two or three, but also form swarms of several hundred.
Bleacher Swarmers with albino white skin and increased muscle mass, giving them more life than normal hawkers. In the game world, bleachers usually appear without upper bodies.
Crawlers Particularly agile and fast enthusiasts who wait a safe distance and attack from behind if the hero is noticeably weakened.
Screechers Individual freakers who utter a high-pitched scream when they spot a person and thus summon hordes of enthusiasts.
Crusher This species has enormous physical strength and can take many direct hits from firearms without taking any visible damage.
sprinter This type of swarmer has significantly more life than normal swarmers and moves at a greatly increased speed. A special characteristic of the sprinters is their upright gray hair.

“Conclusion:“ Because in the end I really enjoyed Days Gone. It's an exciting game with an extremely dense atmosphere and well-functioning mechanics. ""

“Conclusion:“ Days Gone was one of the titles that I've really been looking forward to the most in the last few months. Sometimes not an eternal continuation of a franchise, the focus is clearly on the story and a fresh and authentic survival setting. This is served in an open-world approach, which is still quite new for Sony, and some great ideas that are also not so commonplace. It just feels different. ""

“Conclusion:“ Days Gone made me skeptical for a long time. Another zombie, uh, sorry, freaker game? And one more that lets us fight for survival in an open game world? I wasn't really excited about the action adventure concept - until I played it myself and was able to convince myself of the opposite. Days Gone is not reinventing the Open World concept, but thanks to the terrific combination of survival elements and third-person action, it's still great fun.
