The SILMO Mondial de l'Optique is France's largest trade fair for glasses and ophthalmic optics and has been held every year since 1967. It is organized and carried out by the organizers COMEXPOSIUM and the SILMO association.

Fair SILMO

The SILMO trade fair is an international trade fair for ophthalmic optics, eyeglasses and prescription lenses in Paris , France, with over 850 exhibitors who present their products and services to trade visitors from the precision engineering , laser and optics industries . The central exhibition areas include eyeglass lenses, corrective glasses and sunglasses, contact lenses , optical instruments and tools, as well as various materials for opticians and ophthalmologists. Barometers, glasses accessories, binoculars, hearing aids, magnifying glasses and care products for glasses, devices and lenses are also presented. The focus of the leading trade fair is on the presentation of stylistic, technological and medical developments. The exhibitor structure is characterized by manufacturers and importers. According to the company, almost 1,400 brands are presented on 80,000 m² of exhibition space. The visitor structure is mainly made up of opticians, wholesalers and sales companies. Approx. 35,000 visitors (45% French, 55% foreigners) are counted per trade fair.

history

In 1967 the first trade fair took place in Oyonnox with 58 exhibitors on an area of ​​1,500 square meters. In 1970 the event was renamed “SILMO”: The International Optical Trade Show . In 1981 the company moved to Paris. The SILMO d'Or (“Golden SILMO”) award has been awarded since 1994 . In 2010 the fair moved to Villepinte to be closer to the airport.

SILMO Academy

The "SILMO Academy" symposium will be held parallel to the trade fair and is designed for opticians and optometrists who want to expand their skills in the field of vision and ophthalmic correction options. Under the presidency of Guy Charlot, the “SILMO Academy” is based on a scientific committee and is supposed to be responsible for the scientific demands of the conference. The committee is headed by Yves Pouliquen, member of the Académie Française . Other committee members are Bernard Maitenaz, inventor of the Varilux progressive lens, Jean-Claude Hache, eye doctor in Lille and director of the symposium, Christian Corde, senior inspector for public health, Elaine Grisdale from the Association of British Dispensing Opticians together with lecturer Jean Paul Rosen and Gilles Bourdieau, optician in Lyon .

Award ceremony SILMO d'Or

France's opticians, the French purchasing group CDO (Centrale Des Opticiens), choose from the technical innovations and outstanding designs and award SILMO d'Or awards in seven categories. The ratings are based on the results of a survey conducted by the consultancy firm Gallileo Business Consulting of more than 500 opticians across France in the spring before the fair. The customer surveys were last carried out in 2009, 2010 and 2012.

The 2012 winners included Essilor for their Varilux S Design in the Vision category, Hoya for the VisuReal app in the Material / Equipment category and Silhouette for the Adidas Tour Pro sports glasses in the Sport Equipment category. The spectacle lens and frame manufacturer Rodenstock won three categories - operational excellence, order processing and service quality.
