The SMJG is a registered association active in German-speaking countries that provides youth work in the areas of BDSM and sex education .
The group, which emerged on the initiative of young people, has been available to young sadomasochists since autumn 2000 as a classic, low- threshold information and help offer, initially purely web-based , since 2002 also with real meetings (regulars' tables). The group is aimed specifically at interested teenagers and young adults and is one of the largest supraregional BDSM groups in German-speaking countries.
development
The abbreviation stands for BD SM & J u G end and developed from the original name Sadomasochistic Youth Group . The group was founded in August 2000 by a then 15-year-old who did not come across any age or interest-specific information on the subject of BDSM, and in the course of the following years it developed from an initially purely web-based project to a nationwide network of interested parties up to the age of 27 . In the early years, this individual initiative was joined by a programmer for the technical implementation and handling of the data, as well as a supervisor for the young people seeking advice.
The association has quickly developed into one of the largest supraregional BDSM groups in German-speaking countries and is generally regarded as an important part of the German-speaking BDSM subculture, as it offers interested young people both age-related contacts and detailed information on the subject in order to avoid possible accidents caused by the Prevent imparting expertise. Since April 29, 2010, the association has been a non-profit, registered association based in Berlin.
job
On the one hand, the association provides information on the topics of BDSM and sexuality; on the other hand, with its communication work - above all through its Internet forum - it offers interested young people the opportunity to exchange ideas with their peer group on the subject. The group offers, among other things, detailed information on potential risks and safety instructions on the subject of BDSM and sexuality , but also general but also youth-specific help on topics such as coming out or BDSM and parents and extensive literature references.
The group organizes round tables in 37 German and three Austrian cities, which are aimed exclusively at interested teenagers and young adults. The group's events are open to everyone up to the age of 27. In addition, the SMJG presents itself at scene fairs, provides information about educational work and actively addresses young people with an affinity for the scene.
In addition to the regulars' tables, the group runs a mailing list, a topic-related Internet forum and an IRC chat . As a result, the group is a point of contact for young people interested in BDSM not only at the locations where it is directly represented, but also across the entire German-speaking region.
controversy
At the end of June 2012, jugendschutz.net urged the SMJG to set up protective measures in relation to the official web forum in order to meet the requirements for youth protection on the Internet, with the indication that otherwise the commission for youth protection in the media would be involved. To avoid possible indexing , a time control was introduced for the forum. This is seen as discrimination by users of the SMJG .
At the beginning of 2017, a municipal youth welfare office applied to the Federal Inspectorate for Media Harmful to Young People to include the online offer of SMJG eV in the list of media harmful to young people. However, this application was clearly rejected because " the content of the offer is in no way relevant for indexing ". The applicant's reasoning is not publicly available.
