The SNCAC NC.1070 was a project by a French carrier-based torpedo bomber . It didn't go in series.
history
The development of the NC.1070 goes back to a tender of the French Navy , which was prepared before the liberation of France . The project was initially well received by the Navy. On August 20, 1945, the Société Nationale de Constructions Aéronautiques du Center received the order for three prototypes, but the order for the third aircraft was canceled on April 25, 1946. The first flight of the NC.1070 took place on May 23, 1947. Test flights were then carried out for almost a year. They were satisfied with the flight characteristics, but it was criticized that the engines were too weak. Their theoretical output of 1,600 hp each was not achieved. On March 9, 1948, the prototype was damaged on landing and not repaired because the Navy had lost interest in the aircraft. The second prototype was converted into the first French jet trainer NC.1071 , which, however, also did not go into series production.
The Nord 1500 Noréclair is based on the same tender . This did not go into series either.
construction
The NC.1070 was a mid-wing all-metal dual rudder and highly attached tailplane . The horizontal stabilizer was placed on the engine nacelles, the engine nacelles were almost as long as the fuselage. The landing gear was designed as a nose wheel landing gear. The nose wheel was offset to the left to allow better aiming. The main landing gears were pulled into the engine nacelles. The wings were foldable in two to facilitate the installation of the aircraft on aircraft carriers . The cabins of all crew members were heavily armored. The propellers were three-bladed and turned in opposite directions.
