The SPAD S.31 was a single-seat biplanes - aircraft of the French manufacturer Société Pour L'Aviation et ses Dérivés .

General

This aircraft was one of the further developments of the Blériot-SPAD S.XX , based on the fuselage of the S.XX.

Like the SPAD p.26 , the p.31 was a floatplane, manufactured as a single piece especially for the Schneider Trophy 1920 in Venice / Italy . However, the machine ultimately did not take part in this race and was converted to the SPAD S.31bis.

SPAD p.31bis

The S.31 bis was the S.31 equipped with two machine guns. Since this aircraft was also equipped with the S.XX wing, it was ultimately an S.XX with floats. This aircraft was a study of a single-seat fighter designed as a seaplane.
The S.31bis was sold to Japan in 1921 .

The S.31 was a single-handled double-decker.

The fuselage was a wooden structure in shell construction.

The lower wings were made shorter than the upper ones, the upper wings were heavily swept, the lower, however, were at right angles to the fuselage; Ailerons on the lower wings (total wing area: 31 m²).

The machine had twin swimmers.
