Lists on the subject |
The SPAS-12 from the Italian company Luigi Franchi SpA is a forearm bolt action shotgun that was developed in the late 1970s for use by the military and police . The acronym SPAS stands for Special Purpose Automatic Shotgun (translatable as automatic shotgun for special uses ).
description
The special feature of the gun was a semi-automatic shooting mode in 1979 , in which the rifle did not have to be reloaded by hand after each shot. It became particularly popular with the military because it offered a higher rate of fire than conventional forend repeater shotguns . However, there is still the option of manual reloading, in which, after each shot, the shooter pulls the lower stock towards him in a kind of lifting movement and brings it back into the starting position. It has a tubular magazine attached under the barrel , which can hold up to eight cartridges of the shotgun caliber 12/70, for example 00-shot or shotgun bullets . The disadvantages include that the SPAS-12 is relatively heavy and large. In addition, the recoil is not insignificant. The SPAS-12 has (depending on the model) a foldable shoulder rest or a rigid shaft . There is also a version with a hook at the end of the shaft, which makes it possible to fire the weapon with one hand.
The production of the SPAS-12 was stopped in 2000. The SPAS-15 is the successor in which the ammunition is loaded from a detachable magazine.
