SPHAIR - talents for the sky ( FVS (pilot training) until mid-2003 ) is a training platform of the Swiss Air Force . It serves primarily a pre-military selection for candidates as parachute reconnaissance or pilots .

The term is not an abbreviation, but an artificial word that, according to SPHAIR's own definition, should be reminiscent of " atmosphere , sphere and thus of breadth and space".

SPHAIR for pilots

For prospective military pilots, completing the SPHAIR program in Switzerland is compulsory, but exceptions can be made in individual cases. The aptitude test is multi-stage and includes not only a health test but also performance and knowledge tests. This is followed by a two-week flying training course, which is carried out in cooperation with civilian flight schools. SPHAIR is also for future airliner pilots (e.g. Swiss).

SPHAIR for parachute scouts

In preparation for the military training as a parachute reconnaissance person, two two-week parachute courses can be completed in the SPHAIR program, in which one is called upon to do an aptitude assessment after registering on the Internet, through which one can obtain the civil parachute license. The aim is to select future parachute scouts early on and to prepare them as well as possible for the 46 Uof or 58 Of week RS.

The aptitude test is carried out in the Aviation Medical Institute (FAI) in Dübendorf, where medical tests and a sports test are completed, and further tests are then completed in the two jumping courses.

SPHAIR for air traffic controllers

Sphair also excels in recruiting future Skyguide air traffic controllers , both for civil air traffic controllers and for military tactical fighter managers (whose training is based on that of civil air traffic controllers).
