The SRB - the citizen radio for the district of Saalfeld Rudolstadt is a citizen radio for the city triangle Saalfeld - Rudolstadt - Bad Blankenburg . The radio station emerged in June 2009 from the former public television Open Channel Saalfeld or SRB - the public television for the district of Saalfeld Rudolstadt .

Broadcasting (television) began on October 3, 1999 and was implemented by April 30, 2009. From May 1, 2009, television operations were suspended except for part of the training, the deaf editorial staff and events. In return, the SRB Bürgerradio started operating on the FM frequency 101.4 MHz on 6 June 2009. A district radio was planned, but this cannot be achieved due to the double occupancy of the frequency and the relatively low transmission power.

From 1999 to 2006 the station was called Offener Kanal Saalfeld . On October 1, 2006, the sponsoring association changed the name of the station to SRB - Das Bürgerfernsehen for the Saalfeld Rudolstadt district . With the switch to the radio station name in was SRB - The Citizens' Radio ... changed. The sponsoring association later also changed its name to SRB eV.

program

The program is created by volunteers on a voluntary basis. Live broadcasts with regional content are produced several times a week. Music from different eras and genres is played between magazine articles.

Sponsoring association

The broadcaster is sponsored by Offene Kanal Saalfeld eV. In addition to the program, the sponsoring association is particularly involved in conveying media skills. Mathias Moersch has been chairman of the association from the start. The sponsoring association of the SRB is a specialty in the Thuringian media landscape. While in comparable sponsoring associations predominantly natural persons work, in the Offenen Kanal Saalfeld eV almost exclusively legal persons of public and sociocultural life are active. He sees himself as a supervisory board. He has three permanent employees at the SRB and an average of two trainees. In addition, there are employees on support measures, FSJ and interns. Hannes Hoffmann has been the head of the SRB since July 1, 2019, taking over the position from the head of Cornelia Moersch, who, alongside Carsten Rose from Radio FREI, is currently the spokesperson for the State Working Group Citizens Media Thuringia. By resolution of the Saalfeld City Council, Cornelia Moersch was awarded the silver citizen medal of the city of Saalfeld for her long-term commitment on December 11, 2019.

particularities

A voluntary deaf editorial team was active in the SRB from 2000 to 2009. She creates video contributions for the deaf, which are published in various ways.

The SRB has had a youth editorial team since October 2012. Here young people produce their own radio programs together, which are broadcast once a month.

In cooperation with the Saalfeld local association of the German Amateur Radio Club eV, various technical solutions are designed and implemented to support the further dissemination of the SRB. The SRB was the first Thuringian radio broadcaster to be equipped with an RDS identifier.

With the switch from television to radio, a public relations and quality management concept was drawn up and implemented that helped establish radio in the region.

In the course of this, Admin-SRB was also developed, an open source software for administration and broadcast automation with an integrated quality control and assistance system for the boss on duty or the daytime and on-call duty.
