Ricardo Sperafico

Ricardo Sperafico (born July 23, 1979 in Toledo ) is a Brazilian racing driver from the Sperafico family . He is the twin brother of Rodrigo and the cousin of Alexandre and the late Rafael Sperafico .

Career

Sperafico began his career in 1990 in karting , which he practiced until 1996. In 1996, Sperafico made his first experiences in formula racing in the British Formula Ford winter championship and won the championship straight away. In the following season he entered the British Formula Ford and won the runner-up title. After initial successes in Europe, Sperafico moved back to South America and competed in the South American Formula 3 championship for two seasons . After finishing ninth in his debut season, he finished fourth overall in 1999. In 2000, Sperafico returned to Europe and won the Italian Formula 3000 championship.

In 2001 , Sperafico switched to Formula 3000 for the Petrobras Junior Team , which was supervised by Super Nova Racing . In his debut season he won the race at Spa-Francorchamps and was third three times. In the overall standings, he took fifth place. In 2002 he stayed with the Petrobras Junior Team and started his second Formula 3000 season. Although he couldn't win a race, he improved to fifth place overall. His teammate was his compatriot Antonio Pizzonia in both seasons . In 2003 , Sperafico stayed in Formula 3000 and contested his third season for Coloni Motorsport as a team-mate of Zsolt Baumgartner . Sperafico won the races in Zeltweg and Hockenheim and was runner-up behind Björn Werdenheim .

After Sperafico had not found a cockpit for 2004, he entered the Champ Car World Series in 2005 . Starting for Dale Coyne Racing , the Brazilian was unable to build on his previous performances and finished 17th overall. Sperafico has been active in the Stock Car Brasil Copa Nextel since 2007 .

Although Ricardo Sperafico was more successful in Formula 3000 than his respective teammates Pizzonia and Baumgartner, unlike the other two, he did not make it into Formula 1 .
