The 1st Squash and Rackets Club Wiesental St. Ingbert (short: SRC Wiesental ) is a squash club from St. Ingbert . He played in the top division, the 1st Squash Bundesliga , for six years .

history

The club was founded on May 1st, 1981 in the Wiesental tennis and squash center in Saarbrücken-Dudweiler . The 1st SRC Wiesental was the first squash club in the Saarbrücken city association . Udo Altpeter held the office of 1st chairman until 1985. From 1985 to 1995 Thomas Kociok and Gernot Kohlmann led the association. In May 1995 the current chairman, Roland Degen, took office. The club grew to around 50 members during these years. With the start of a men's team in 1981, the sporting activities began and ended that season with promotion to the Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz / Saar.

In 1984 three men's teams and one women's team took part in the league. For the first time in the club's history, the first men's team is able to participate in the Bundesliga promotion round in Nürtingen . In 1986, the first women's team made the runner-up championship in the Oberliga Rhein-Land-Pfalz / Saar and thus also the right to participate in a Bundesliga promotion round. These successes were repeated in the past seasons 1989/90 and 1994/95, as well as 2001/02. At the end of the 1990s, the SRC Wiesental had to move to the St. Ingbert district of Rohrbach .

The merger with SC St. Ingbert also went hand in hand with the new venue . In both the Oberliga and the Regionalliga, the first men's team immediately won the championship. In the first season in the 2nd Squash Bundesliga South , the team, led by Christian Bernard , came in third. Since none of the better-placed teams had received a license for promotion, the march from fourth to first division was perfect within just three years. The SRC Wiesental was thus the first Saarland squash club to be represented in the top division.

The team achieved their greatest success in the 2004/05 season when they reached the play-offs for the German championship . The semifinals were clearly lost 4-0 against the eventual champions, Paderborner SC . In the following years, the re-qualification for the playoffs was always just missed. After the 2007/08 season, the club withdrew from the 1st Bundesliga, although not relegated in terms of sport, as the departure of international Johannes Voit could not be compensated. During the Bundesliga time, the SRC Wiesental had professional players Graham Ryding , Liam Kenny , Peter Barker , Bradley Ball and Kristian Frost in action.
