The Schachsportclub Rostock 07 is a chess club in the city of Rostock in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It goes back to the chess department of the BSG Schiffahrt / Hafen Rostock , from whose successor club the chess athletes initially switched to the SV Rostock Police in 1998 , before they organized themselves in April 2007 in the form of an independent club.

The first team of the club played in the seasons from 2007/2008 to 2009/2010 in the northern season of the Oberliga Nord . With the relay victory in the 2009/2010 season, he was promoted to the northern relay of the 2nd Bundesliga , in which the club was active in the 2010/2011 to 2013/2014 seasons. After winning first place in the 2013/2014 season, he was promoted to the Bundesliga , from which the team was immediately relegated after the 2014/2015 season. The club ended the following season 2015/2016 in the 2nd Bundesliga North in second place, however, due to a sporting reorientation, the team voluntarily withdrew to the major league. After the 2016/2017 season, the first team was relegated to the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Association League and thus from the national leagues to the state chess association Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, in which the other teams of the club also participate.

The association or PSV Rostock as the predecessor association has been organizing the International Rostock Chess Open (2002 to 2006: PSV Open, since 2007: SSC Open), the largest and most popular open chess tournament in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , since 2002 . The club's players included or include the grandmasters Stellan Brynell and Jacek Tomczak as well as the international champions Hans-Ulrich Grünberg and Marcin Szeląg .
