ST-2 is a commercial communications satellite of a Singaporean - Taiwanese SingTel - Chunghwa joint venture named Satellite Ventures Pte Ltd .
It was launched into geostationary orbit on May 20, 2011 at 20:38 UTC with an Ariane 5 ECA launcher from the Center Spatial Guyanais rocket launch site in Kourou (along with GSAT-8 ) . Construction of the satellite was ordered from Mitsubishi Electric in December 2008 through a joint venture between Singapore Telecommunications Limited ( SingTel ) and Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom Company Limited ( Chunghwa Telecom ) .
The three-axis stabilized satellite is equipped with Ku-band and C-band transponders and is supposed to provide telecommunication services, television and internet from the position 88 ° East from Asia and the Middle East. It was built on the basis of the DS2000 satellite bus from Mitsubishi Electric in the Kamakura Works for the operator ST-2 Satellite Ventures Pte Ltd. built and has a planned service life of 15 years.
